"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others" --African proverb
Welcome to the MDE Peer-Mentoring Program!
The MDE Peer-Mentoring Program supports new students (mentees) by connecting them directly to more experienced MDE students or MDE alumni (mentors), who will provide support and advice during a student’s first few and often most taxing semesters.
A major goal of the program is to support new students so they can become successful online adult learners.
New MDE students are often facing several challenges, including unfamiliarity with online education or graduate-level work, and balancing work, family, school and other demands. Experienced students and alumni have a wealth of information that can help new students navigate the trials they are facing successfully.
The support given through the peer-mentoring program may include time-management strategies, experience sharing, and how to find UMUC and MDE resources such as the MDE Hub and MDE Orientation.
The focus of the peer-mentoring program is NOT tutoring. The focus of the program is not to help with content.
The support offered via the Peer-Mentoring program will not include help with assignments or course activities. For course and assignment assistance, students are encouraged to contact their instructors or teaching assistants.
Good luck to everyone! We look forward to hearing from you!
How the peer mentoring program works?
Mentors work as a group. To contact the mentors, you should send your email to: email@example.com
Mentees do not see any communication of other mentees and are treated with privacy by the mentors' group. Mentors are capable of helping any of the mentees. Each mentee will have additionally one of the mentors assigned as a primary contact, who they can contact directly. But, for faster support, we encourage you to use the Peer Mentoring group email (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Among comments received regarding the MDE Peer-Mentoring Program, you will find statements such as:
“I wish this program was around when I started the MDE.”
“My partner and I hit it off so well, she’s been a great help to me!”
“It’s been very rewarding to help a new student adapt to the MDE program, nice to know that someone can benefit from some of the hair-pulling I did in those early courses.”
How to participate?
