"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others" --African proverb

You are now at the new Peer-Mentoring web site, come on in and look around!

Welcome to the MDE Peer-Mentoring Program!

The MDE Peer-Mentoring Program pairs new students (mentees) with more experienced MDE students or MDE alumni (mentors), who will provide support and advice during a student’s first  few and often most taxing semesters.

A major goal of the program is to support new students so they can become successful online adult learners.

New MDE students are often facing several challenges, including unfamiliarity with online education or graduate-level work, and balancing work, family, school and other demands. Experienced students and alumni have a wealth of information that can help new students navigate the trials they are facing successfully.

The support given through the peer-mentoring program may include time-management strategies, experience sharing, and how to find UMUC and MDE resources such as the MDE Hub and MDE Orientation.

The focus of the peer-mentoring program is NOT tutoring. The focus of the program is not to help with content.

The support offered via the Peer-Mentoring program will not include help with assignments or course activities. For course and assignment assistance, students are encouraged to contact their instructors or teaching assistants.

Among comments received regarding the MDE Peer-Mentoring Program, you will find statements such as:

“I wish this program was around when I started the MDE.”
“My partner and I hit it off so well, she’s been a great help to me!”
“It’s been very rewarding to help a new student adapt to the MDE program, nice to know that someone can benefit from some of the hair-pulling I did in those early courses.”

If you are interested in participating as a mentor or mentee in the MDE
Peer-Mentoring Program visit our website at:
 http://mdepeermentoring.weebly.com

You’ll find a wealth of information there as well as a questionnaire that will provide us with your contact information and help us pair you with a mentor or mentee as appropriate. For new students, participating in the Peer-Mentoring program is a chance to access a wealth of experience and support. For those more experienced students and alumni it is the rewarding chance to share your knowledge and strategies for success with new MDE students.

Good luck to everyone! We look forward to hearing from you!
